Bounce This AroundDate Added: May 23, 2002
On the Internet, everybody is Martha Stewart, sharing tips for out-of-the-ordinary uses for ordinary everyday items. But how much should you buy into them? BOUNCE DRYER SHEETS And all this time you've just been putting Bounce in the dryer! It will chase ants away when you lay a sheet near them. It takes the odor out of books and photo albums that don't get opened too often.... [Full text removed at author's request] And now...you know. Print and keep on file or pass it around !! The bulk of this popular e-mail chain letter is stolen from the 1995 book "Polish Your Furniture with Panty Hose," by Joey Green. The information is copyrighted and available in its proper context at Green's web site, www.wackyuses.com. Green attests that the uses have been tested and work, though he also disclaims "any responsibility or liability for the effectiveness of the suggestions." While the makers of Bounce offer dozens of alternate uses for their product on their website, the Bounce House, they focus mostly on the dryer sheets' freshening abilities. A Bounce spokesperson told BreakTheChain.org that the claims in the e-mail are unproven and inadvisable: We haven't tested these uses and can't recommend them. The only alternative uses we have tested and feel confident in recommending are the ones listed on our site. Here's a direct link for a list of alternative uses we've tested and can recommend for Bounce: http://thebouncehouse.com/print_all_tips.html While none of the suggestions in the e-mail message appear to be overtly harmful, there is always a risk in using a cleaning product in ways not recommended by the manufacturer.
